Athletic/Activity Night In

Activity/Athletic Night

On Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. we will host an Activity / Athletic Night in the cafeteria. This event provides all students including the Class of 2023 students with the opportunity to socialize as a group. They will be introduced to the clubs we offer and the fall sports that are open to their freshmen experience. When the 2019/20 school year starts, we will host a 2nd Activity / Athletic Fair to showcase our winter and spring sports. The February 20th Activity / Athletic Nigh is a way to plan for the 2019/20 school year and get an understanding of our available programs after the D86 Board of Education made program cuts to fund infrastructure repairs, improve security, improve accessibility and upgrade classroom environments.

At the Activity / Athletic Fair, some may notice fewer offerings in both Activities and Athletics. This is a result of the failed November referendum. The Hinsdale Township High School District 86 Board of Education voted December 17 to make cuts to our budget to pay for infrastructure repairs, safety, and security upgrades and improvements to ADA accessibility. Among those cuts were seven athletic programs and a large number of activities. Beginning in the 2019-2020 school year, football, cheerleading, poms, marching band, wrestling, swimming & diving, bass fishing, water polo, and over 40 of our current clubs will no longer be available programs for student participation. The Board has made clear that these cuts will be in effect unless there is money from a referendum to pay for the repairs or until the repairs are all made, which we expect to take five years without money from a referendum. More information on these cuts can be found on the D86 web site under the 2019-20 Cuts and April 2019 Referendum tabs.

We would like to invite parents and our future freshmen as well as our current parents and students to join us at the Athletic / Activity Night. This event is an opportunity to welcome our new students and also to join me and members of my leadership team on a building tour. You can click here for a list of activities and athletics that will be available to your child in the 2019-2020 school year. All families that attend on February 20th are encouraged to join us at 7:00 p.m. for a D86 Referendum Building Tour. Those attending the tour will receive a pass to our Spring Play Lovesick. The Spring Play pass can be used on one of the three nights that Lovesick is being performed in our auditorium: Thursday, February 21st, Friday the 22nd or Saturday the 23rd.
