Board Votes 5-0 to Appoint Tammy Prentiss Superintendent Effective July 1, 2019
Hinsdale, IL – March 4, 2019 – At this evening’s Board of Education Meeting, the Hinsdale Township Board of Education voted 5-0 to appoint Tammy Prentiss Superintendent effective July 1. Prentiss is the current Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, a position she has held for the past five years. The Board approved a two-year contract that will expire June 30, 2021.
Prior to the vote, Board Vice President Kevin Camden read statements from President Bill Carpenter and Member Nancy Pollak that stated their support for Ms. Prentiss. Neither President Carpenter nor Member Pollak was able to attend the meeting.
In his statement, President Carpenter said, “The Board agrees that continuity and stability are paramount for District 86 at this time. As I said when announcing the recommendation to appoint Ms. Prentiss on February 19, Ms. Prentiss has proven herself to be a fierce advocate for all students. She has done a tremendous job in leading Student Services, balancing the fiscal constraints while managing the complex web of legal requirements that the District must fulfill to better utilize District resources in this critical operations area. She also knows District 86 very well because she has been here since 2014, and that knowledge of the District will serve her and the District well. We fully expect that her skills gained in this challenging leadership role will prove to be an asset for all students in District 86.”
“I appreciate the Board’s confidence in my leadership, and I am honored and humbled to serve as the next superintendent in District 86,” said Ms. Prentiss. “District 86 will have the benefit of a four-month transition, a unique opportunity in providing seamless leadership to our students, their families and our teachers and staff. I have already begun to meet with many in our community at referendum education events, and once that outcome is known, regardless of what it is, I want to continue the dialogue with all stakeholders. We have important work to do. I look forward to continuing this important work bringing the resolve to preserve, protect and extend the tradition of excellence in District 86.”
Ms. Prentiss has served as Assistant Superintendent for Student Services since she joined the District in May 2014. Prior to District 86, Ms. Prentiss served as the Assistant Director of the Cooperative Association of Special Education (CASE), an educational cooperative in DuPage County. Prior to CASE, Ms. Prentiss spent a total of 19 years serving in Community Consolidated School District 93, starting as a special education teacher, successively rising to Assistant Principal and Principal of Stratford Middle School in Carol Stream, and ultimately Director of Special Education for the entire district.
Ms. Prentiss holds an Educational Specialist, two Masters of Science and a Bachelor of Science degree, all conferred from Northern Illinois University. She is currently enrolled at Aurora University as a Doctoral candidate.
Ms. Prentiss will succeed current Superintendent Dr. Bruce Law on July 1. Dr. Law is leaving District 86 for a superintendent position in Township High School District 113.
