Districts 181 and 86 Hosting Free Screening of “Screenagers Next Chapter: Uncovering Skills for Stress Resilience” on Feb. 5
The next event in the 2019-20 edition of the annual Community Speaker Series that is being co-presented by Community Consolidated School District 181 and Hinsdale Township High School District 86 will feature a screening of the documentary “Screenagers Next Chapter: Uncovering Skills for Stress Resilience” followed by a discussion with filmmaker and physician Dr. Delaney Ruston. In her latest film, which features interviews with students from District 86, Dr. Ruston examines the science behind teens’ emotional challenges, the interplay of social media, and, most importantly, what can be done in our schools and homes to help them build crucial skills to navigate stress, anxiety and depression in our digital age.
“The evolution of technology and social media have had a profound impact on the way students learn, collaborate and communicate,” said Tammy Prentiss, superintendent for District 86. “However, they have also created increasingly complex social and emotional challenges for our children and teens that are adversely effecting their health and well-being. In her film, Dr. Ruston offers valuable information and insight into how we can help the youth in our community better deal with these challenges, and also best support them in their continued growth, development and success.”
The event, which will take place on Feb. 5 at The Community House (415 W. Eighth Street in Hinsdale), will feature a pair of screenings and discussions - one from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and another from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. While both sessions are free and open to the public, registration is required. You can register for the session at 9:30 a.m. by visiting https://conta.cc/2T1L3kb and the session at 7 p.m. by visiting https://conta.cc/2ZX6bJU.
