Dr. Patrick Hardy Named New Principal of Hinsdale South
Dr. Hardy will be replacing Arwen Pokorny Lyp, who announced in January that she was resigning to accept the principal position at Downers Grove South High School. His first day with the district will be July 1, 2022.

Given the heavy snow, freezing rain and hazardous travel conditions that are forecast for our area, District 86 will have an E-learning Day on Feb. 17.

Weather Forecast and Status of School for Jan. 26
The National Weather Service’s forecast for Jan. 26 calls for temperatures to be below zero with the wind chill. However, based on the temperatures that are expected when students will be traveling to and from school, District 86 plans to hold classes as scheduled.

The entries from Hinsdale South and Hinsdale Central won a total of 63 awards, including 12 Gold Keys, 22 Silver Keys and 29 Honorable Mentions.

Information About Changes to the District 86 Food Service Program for Second Semester
Expanded free meal program will be available to students who qualify for free and reduced lunch or have an approved demonstrated need. In addition, prices will be raised on some items due to ongoing global supply chain issues.

Appointments Now Available for the Vaccine and Booster Clinic on Jan. 24
People ages 12 and older who meet the eligibility requirements can get a booster shot or the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine during the event.

District 86 Administering "No Harm" Final Exams for First Semester
"No harm" means that the score a student receives on an exam cannot lower their grade for the semester. In addition, attendance for these exams will be optional.

District 86 Extending Thanksgiving Break
During its meeting on Nov. 18, the board of education approved the conversion of Monday, Nov. 22, and Tuesday, Nov. 23, to days off for all District 86 students and employees so that everyone has the entire week of Nov. 22 (Nov. 22-26) off for Thanksgiving break.

District 86 Announces Seal of Biliteracy Winners for the Fall of 2021
Ninety-two students from across the district earned this award by scoring a 4 or 5 on the AP exam in the spring, or performing well on a qualifying language proficiency test during first semester.
