ELL Department Chair & Coordinator
Welcome to ELL (English Language Learners). This year the ELL Department will be located at only Hinsdale Central High School. We will be opening our doors to students from Hinsdale South who receive ELL services. The ELL program is determined to make the transition to Central a positive and engaging experience for students. We seek to grow through learning as a community. Best practices indicates that ELL students learn English through listening, speaking, reading and writing English on a consistent basis. We hope to challenge students to become proficient in English through high standards and research-based teaching strategies.
This year the ACCESS test, which measures English proficiency, will be administered online. This is a state mandated exam that many ELL students and other students who speak another language must take in the winter. Your student will be notified if they are to complete this exam this winter. For more information about the ACCESS test please visit www.wida.us to find out more about this exam.
