• PSAT

The PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) is a practice version of the SAT (Scholastic Apptitue Test).

With the SAT now being a state mandated test for all juniors, a version of the PSAT will be offered at HCHS to all juniors, sophomores and freshmen during the 2019-2020 academic year as indicated by the Illinois State Board of Education.

Juniors will take the PSAT/NMSQT on Wednesday, October 16, 2019

The PSAT/NMSQT exam will be administered during the school day and all junior students will automatically be registered to take the exam.  In addition to practicing for the SAT, this exam also serves as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT). The NMSQT provides students the opportunity to earn recognition and financial assistance through scholarship programs administered by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. There is no make-up date for this exam, so if a student is absent, they will miss this practice opportunity.

More information on the PSAT can be found at PSAT.  More information about the National Merit Scholarship Program can be found at NMSP.

Freshmen and Sophomores will take a version of the PSAT on Wednesday, April 15, 2020

The PSAT 8/9 is similar to the PSAT 10/PSAT/SAT, but is normed against other 8th or 9th grade students taking the same test, depending on the grade the student indicates they are enrolled in at the time of testing. This exam will be administered during the school day and all freshmen will automatically be registered to take the exam.

All sophomore students will take the PSAT 10 this year, in preparation for the PSAT/NMSQT and SAT the following year. The PSAT 10 is similar to the PSAT/SAT, but normed against other 10th grade students taking the exam. This exam will be adminstered during he school day and all sophomores will automatically be registered to take the exam.
