With all that is going on in the world right now, this is the perfect time to inspire the next generation of STEM students. With this in mind, the district's science department wants to remind you that registration for the Science Inquiry and Research (SIR 1, 2, 3) program will be open until April 30.
The SIR course will be using a remote learning model to help preserve and protect the health and safety of the students. We have used remote learning for SIR in previous semesters, and based our model on IMSA’s Rise program.
SIR is a one credit, honors weighted course that will provide students with the necessary skills to conduct independent research and report their findings. Students will choose a topic of their own interest and collaborate with District 86 science teachers and their peers to conduct authentic research. The course explicitly addresses three broad areas encompassed by the nature of science: experimental design, data acquisition and analysis, and written and oral communication. It is also a prerequisite for our advanced research courses, which enable students to conduct research at local universities and research facilities.
This is an opportunity to stay academically engaged this summer while earning honors credit. If you have any questions about the program, please contact Mr. Wollschlaeger (firstname.lastname@example.org).
