2020 Residency Verification Process
Only students who are legal residents of District 86 may attend school in the District. All District 86 students must provide proof of residency each school year. Verifying residency annually is an effort to protect District taxpayers and resources by identifying non-resident students attending or attempting to enroll in District 86. Residency requirements for ALL District 86 students can be found on the District’s website: https://d86.hinsdale86.org/residency.
For the 2019-2020 school year, District 86 has contracted with a third-party vendor to electronically check student residency information. We anticipate a majority of our students’ residency will be electronically verified.
If your student’s residency is electronically verified, you will receive an email notification. Additional residency verification paperwork is NOT REQUIRED. Your next step will be to complete 2020 Online Registration in July.
Residency NOT Verified
If your student’s residency CANNOT be electronically verified, you will receive an email notification. Additional residency verification paperwork is REQUIRED. An email requesting the required residency documentation and instructions on how to submit the required documentation will follow.

Student Directory Information for Residency Verification*
Under the Illinois School Student Records Act [ISSRA] and the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act [FERPA], student information is generally confidential and cannot be released without parental consent. There are a few exceptions that allow the District to release certain basic identifying information about its students, known as directory information, to third parties. For residency verification, the District has designated the following as directory information:
- Student name
- Parent/Guardian[s] name
- Parent/Guardian[s] address / mailing address
Parents/guardians may request that any or all Directory Information for the purpose of residency verification not be released. To opt out of the release of Directory Information, you must submit your request in writing to the District at firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday, April 12 2019. Please include your name, your student's name, and your student's ID number in the request. If you are the parent/guardian of multiple students, you must submit a request for each student.
If you opt out of the release of Directory Information for the purpose of residency verification, you will be required to submit residency verification paperwork. The District reserves the right to verify information submitted on residency verification paperwork, including through the use of a third party vendor.
