The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) define quarantine as what you have to do when you might have been exposed to the virus. They define isolation as what you have to do when you have been infected with the virus and/or are experiencing COVID-like symptoms that include:
- Fever (100.4°F or higher)
- New onset of moderate to severe headache
- Shortness of breath
- New cough
- Sore throat
- New loss of sense of taste or smell
- Fatigue from unknown cause
- Muscle or body aches from unknown cause.
Please note that the quarantine and isolation data will not necessarily align because people may get released from isolation early if their symptoms are determined to be something other than COVID-19.
