Creative high school students develop their cinematic and journalistic storytelling skills producing films, videos, visual effects, webcasts and more at Boston University's Academy of Media Production.  Discover educational opportunities and professional pathways.  Create videos, short films, visual effects, webcasts and more.  Application deadline is March 31, 2021. 

July 12, 2021 - July 16, 2021 

This is a five day program that introduces a diverse population of students from different ethnic and social backgrounds to the traditional fields of engineering, including Chemical, Civil and Environmental, Computer and Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering.  Students also will be introduced to unique aspects of Villanova's College of Engineering which include Sustainable Engineering and Engineering Entrepreneurship.  Lectures and hands-on laboratory will involve at home experiments which are taught by Villanova engineering faculty, and daily guest speakers who will provide academic and industry instruction.  This program is open to rising sophomore, junior and senior high school students.     

UMass Amherst Summer Pre-College offers academic intensives for rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors ranging in length from 1 to 6 weeks.  Their programs correspond to a variety of majors at UMass (and many other universities) and give students an opportunity to explore their academic interests and help them decide what to study in college.  Topics range from sport management and business to engineering, animal science, architecture and much more.  All programs will be fully online and taught by UMass Amherst faculty and graduate students, combining live video instruction, independent project/group work, and checkins with faculty and TA's.  Each course includes a minimum of 8 hours/week of live instructions plus offline assignments.  Students will earn college credits and will be able to request an official UMass transcript.  High school students entering 10th - 12th grades are eligible to apply and admissions are rolling through June.    

Two-week sessions begin on June 21, July 5 and July 19 

From protests to town hall meetings to interviewing local and state politicians, our students are covering issues that matter in their communities.  Students also have the option of selecting a photojournalism track, taught by veteran photojournalist Stephen Haines.  He worked as a staff photographer, assignment and photo editor for the Boston Globe.  He will help students sharpen their camera skills to teach them the basics of visual storytelling.

This is a hybrid program, held partially on campus and partially online.  The academy is also available as a fully online experience.  The cost to attend the hybrid program (part on-campus, part online) is $100 and includes all meals, activity, and program costs.  The cost is $50 for students who choose to participate entirely online.  Financial need scholarship are available.

Campers will get to enjoy historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania while studying American Civil War History through unique learning experiences.  Students will explore the circumstances leading to the war, investigate significant battles during the war, and explore the condition of the United States after the war.

The Reynolds Young Writers Workshop at Denison is an energizing 8-day program for motivated high school students (rising juniors and seniors) who love to write.  For over 25 years, the Reynolds Workshop has brought together young writers who are passionate about writing and eager to connect to a close-knit community of writing friends.  The workshop is held each June on the beautiful campus of Denison University, a leading liberal arts college, in the village of Granville, Ohio.

The Cornell University Precollege Summer Program is offering courses exclusively online this summer.  Students choose from undergraduate Cornell courses in Arts and Architecture, Business and Hospitality, Health and Humanities, International Relations, Science and Technology, Social Change, Veterinary Medicine, and more.  You can also create your own six or nine week program.  

WashU's Olin Business School offers two summer programs to help you learn about business and entrepreneurship while also preparing you for college!  

Olin Fleischer Scholars Program

The Olin Fleischer Scholars Program is a free week-long educational experience for rising high school juniors and seniors interested in business and entrepreneurship.  This program, which helps prepare students for college and career planning, is designed for students with limited financial resources, those from underrepresented populations, and first generation college students.  Students who participate in the program will learn about academic and career opportunities in business and entrepreneurship - Visit St. Louis area companies and interact with company executives - Study with world-reowned business school faculty - Utilize a variety of resources at a top research institution - Live on-campus at WashU with other area high school students.

BOLD@Olin

BOLD@Olin is an exclusive week-long program for rising high school juniors and seniors who identify as women and are eager to learn more about leadership development and opportunities in business.  Students who participate in the program will develop teamwork skills by working on a case study, network with successful women in the industry, learn from Olin faculty on a variety of business topics as well as leadership development, discover the many areas of study available at Olin and live on-campus at Washington University with other like-minded women.

The John Carroll University Young Writers Workshop is a week-long summer camp offering both day camp and overnight residential options, so students from all over the country can experience inspiring and rigorous creative writing!  Students in grades 8 - 12 will participate in an immersive writing experience in the craft of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry.  Studying with acclaimed professors, students read, engage in writing exercises, workshop their stories and poems, and experience a pre-college environment.  They compose new work which will be published in their annual anthology.  The last day of camp features a reception and reading by the Young Writers.

Landmark College offers summer programs to assist a wide range of students with learning differences.  Any high school, middle school, or college student who dreams of being a more confident and better prepared learner may explore these summer programs.  Financial aid is available in most programs to qualifying students.  A diagnosed learning disability is not required to participate in their summer programs.  

Experiment in Architecture

Experiment in Architecture is a two-week workshop designed to introduce high school students to the architecture profession.  The program will provide students with a comprehensive overview of the study and practice of architecture and will help students make an informed decision about pursuing an education and career in architecture.  

Experiment in Landscape Architecture

If you are currently in high school and looking to the future you may be interested in IIT's summer landscape architecture program.  This one week program is designed to introduce high school students to the profession of landscape architecture.      

At present Boston University is planning for summer 2021 courses to be offered in the hybrid teaching format known as "Learn from Anywhere" which gives students the option to attend classes remotely or in person.  All updates will be posted on their website.  

National Geographic offers summer travel programs that aim to inspire and educate high school and middle school students age 13 and older. Students are invited to set out into the field with National Geographic Experts and knowledgeable Expedition Leaders on immersive trips held in destinations across the globe—from Alaska to Australia and beyond.
